PowderPocket Box January 2014 - My First Box & First Impressions

Hello My beauties :)
You know I never actually thought I would ever be doing a post about a subscruption beauty box again after Glossybox but as you can see I am.
I gave up on the Glossybox about a year ago after been Subscribed to them well over a year.  Dont get me wrong there was nothing major wrong with the box but to be honest I wasnt happy with the fact that because Glossybox was based in the UK, the UK people got their boxes much earlier than us and also ended up getting the better products than us.  We would get our boxes in Ireland about 2 weeks after which leave facebook and blogging world riddled with glossybox spoiler posts.  You ended up knowing what you were getting before you even got it which took the fun out of it.  Anyways What I love most about reading other blogs is getting notified about anything new in the beauty world and last month was the first time I ever heard that we in Ireland were going to get a chance to have our very own beauty box wahooooooo music to my ears :)

PowderPocket is Galway based and was created by the wonderful Rugby player Michael Swift (I know I know I never thought a rugby player would be the first person to start up a Beauty Subscription Box in Ireland) but fair play to him :) :)   PowderPocket has literally the same Idea as any beauty box you will be getting 5 mystery beauty samplers to try out each month with he added bonus that they promise to include at least one Irish brand product in the box I love it :)
Last months (Decembers) box was their first box and it looked brilliant so I just had to bite the bullet and Subscribe :)
I got my first box today wahoooo the excitement as I tear open the outer box which is so cute to reveal a black very sturdy box inside with the word Powder Pocket printed in pink I Love it :)
Also on top was a little magazine type page with plenty to read including the list of products and a little bit about them inside.  Plus there is a part where you see some extracts from some Irish bloggers I think that's brilliant that Powder Pocket are supporting Irish bloggers :) :)

Now for whats in the box Please if anyone is subscribed and has not got their box yet dont look at it will spoil it :)
I opened up the box to see a beautiful pink ribbon and a little personalised sticker I love it :) until one of the twins took the sticker off before I snapped it that is :)

I am sure you have guessed by seeing the magazine that the theme of this months box is about saving our skin.  I was very happy with that as we all know the Irish weather has been horrible all month and of course our skin at the moment need extra TLC because of it.  i know my skin has seen some hard days and even weeks since the cold weather has come in so I was excited to see what we got

Wow I was already impressed before I took a proper look with what was inside :) Look how neat and tidy the products are in the box and of course the first thing I spot is an Irish brand I love and adore :)

First up in the box we have the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray which is something I have not tried yet :) The Sample size we got is 50g which I would not really call a sample size because this is going to last a long time.  The full size is 150g and costs €9 to buy :)  What i was more amazed at was the promises of this spray.  It stated that this is more than a skin smoothing water, It is a daily treatment in its own right thanks to its anti-oxidant properties.  It helps sensitive skin irritated by outside factors such as sun and helps skin ageing.  Its so good for the skin that the whole family can use it be it for freshing up your makeup, for soothing redness and burns, fighting iching etc  I am looking forward to trying this out :) :)

We Got Pixy (Irish Brand Company) Natural Skincare Citrus Spring Soap.  I absolutely love Pixys products and I have actually reviewed quite a few products by them.  This soap I haven't tried yet and I cant wait to do so because the smell is absolutely beautiful.  This states that the Citrus Spring Soap is a melody of zingy uplifting scents from bergamot, grapefruit and orange essential oils, with rich and softening cocoa butter and olive oil to leave your hands and body supple and conditioned.  The full sized price is only €3.99 per slice so it looks like we got a full sized product here :) :)

Next item we got is from a brand name I have never heard of Lavera which is actually an award winning range of 100% natural and organic skincare and cosmetics formulated for sensitive and delicate skin.  We got the Basis Sensitiv Hand Cream which contains organic almond oil, organic shea butter and organic chamomile extract to soote, protect and hydrate hands.  I love hand creams personally and like trying out new ones as my hands are always suffering as you know at the worst of times I suffer with dermatitis which at times can be sore and embarrassing so I am interested to see how I get on with this little beauty.  The full sized tube of this costs €5.24 but i can tell this sample size will last a while

Now for the face :) :) We have another brand I have never tried before which is Ginvera.  We are getting the Green Tea Marvel Gel which is supposed to ex foliate, invigorate and illuminate our faces.  The gel stimulates skin metabolism and leave it feeling smooth and soft whilst regulating and balancing oil secretion which is essential in preventing pimples.  i have to say for the past 6 months i have been suffering with acne around my chin area which is purely hormonal so it will be nice to try something for that reason.  As you can see it has alot of promises so I am hopeful.  The full sized tube is €27 hmmm bit pricey but we will see.  The sample size is actually quite small even though it looks big enough when I opened the tube there was very little product in there and i can imagine I will only get about 2 goes of this which in my eyes is not enough to make a decision on weither its good for us or not

And Lastly I am delighted that there is a makeup product in here :)  Again from a brand I have never heard about :) :) Benecos is said to be a young label with a mission to bring a breath of fresh air to natural beauty and making high quality natural and vegan cosmetics available to all.  NICE!!! As you can see we Got the Natual Kojal Black Eyeliner which has the active ingrediant of Jojoba Oil which is suitable for ones with super sensitive eyes.  I am excited to try this out.
This is another full sized product which costs €4.66 not bad but will it a no no or a yes yes :)

Well I have to say I am impressed !!!! and will surely be looking forward to next months box :)  These products look so promising I cant wait to start using them.  So much so I have already started using the hand cream and plan on using the Green Tea Gel tonight :)  I will update you all on how I get on with these products in my next PowderPocket reveal.  I am impressed that we got 2 full sized products in the box and the fact that apart from one product the sample sized are very very generous.  I am also super impressed with the personalised sticker which said "Nina We are here to save your skin" it makes it all more personal I think
Have you got your box yet?  Are you thinking of subscribing?
Well if you are check out the PowderPocket website where they offer a plan
Monthly plan is €15 including postage
6 monthly plan is €75 including postage where you receive you box per month for 6 month that includes a free box
12 monthly plan is €150 including postage where you receive your box per month for 12 months that includes 2 free boxes

Until Next Time

Makeup That Has Multiple Uses, By Barbie's Beauty Bits

Looking pretty can sure cost a lot sometimes! But, what if I told you, that some of the common makeup products, have multiple uses.  Exciting isn’t it? Plus, it can also help you save money and time. Especially, if it’s one of those days you need to get out the door quickly, while still looking like a million bucks!

Well, today ladies is your lucky day! As I’m going to share with you the many looks that one makeup item can create.

White Eyeliner:  This can be used as highlighter on bridge of your nose, corner of the eyes, and waterline.

Mascara: This has a dual purpose, as it can be applied to both your eyelashes and eyebrows.

Lipstick: Can be used as lipstick and blush.  Depending on the color, it can also be used on your eyes.

Eyeliner Pencil: Use this bad boy as an eyeliner, brow liner and to contour your nose!

Bronzer: This one takes the cake! As it can be used as an eye shadow, to contour, applied to your cheeks, as well as to lengthen eyelashes.

Blush:  Aside from the obvious, which is applying to your cheekbones, this little beauty works wonders on your lips.  You can mix it with a gloss or even layer it with another color to create a shimmer lip color.  It also works fabulous as an eyeshadow.

Face Primer: Use this on your face, lips and eyes!

Eyeshadow: Depending on the color of the shadow, you can create numerous looks with this.

Dark colors:
  • Can be used as an eyeliner
  • To hollow your cheeks
  • Fill in your eyebrows
  • Mix with a gloss for a lipstick
  • Blush (if it’s in the brown or pink family)
  • Contour cheeks

Light colors:

  • A highlighter to both your cheekbone and brow bone

Real Techniques Starter Kit Review

Hello My beauties How are you all today :)
I am finally getting round to doing this review after so long.  I to be honest got that used to using these brushes I totally forgot about the fact that I never got round to reviewing them.  Dont get me wrong its not for the fact that it is a bad review its far from it but we in general sometimes get to used to using something and never share our experiences.   I have often used a product that I have been using for so long and actually stop to think wow i love this so much I should share it lol but something else always gets in the way.  Its a shame as i have had these brushes for about 6 months now but better late than never eh?
At this stage I am sure alot of you have heard of Real Techniques Brushes that have been created by the Wonderful Samantha Chapman from Pixiwoo :) Well since that Nic has also joined the Real techniques team and together they are creating the best tutorials on how to use these brushes :) From the Website:
Designed with pro makeup artist Sam + Nic Chapman, Real Techniques brushes combine high-tech materials with innovative design to make creating a pixel-perfect look easier than ever
  • Synthetic bristles are ultra plush and smoother than the hair you'll find in other brushes. Since taklon is synthetic, it's 100% cruelty-free. The soft fibers help create a flawless, high-definition finish in any type of light – from sunlight to harsh indoor lighting.
  • The color-coded system corresponds to the key steps of makeup application so you can create a flawless base, enhanced eyes, and the perfect finish like a pro.
  • Each brush head is hand-cut to the perfect shape, allowing for precise application from dense coverage to a soft, delicate finish.
  • The collection is suitable for a wide range of products and every makeup need – from powders, creams, and liquids to mineral makeup, highlighter, and shimmer.
  • Brush names on the handles make for easy reference when creating your favorite look.
For my first try of the Real Technique brush I of course Had to opt for the Starter Kit which contain all eye brushes and to be honest is the perfect kit to create any eye look :)  You can Purchase this on Cloud10 website for €24.99 and you can also buy this kit at boots or superdrug which costs €28.99 but of course I had to see if I could get an even better bargain for it and I am happy to confirm I did get it at a more affordable price at just $18 which is only €13 what a bargain eh? Where I hear you ask of course the iherb website but dont jump straight away to buy because at the end I am going to give you a special link where you can get up to $10 off your first order ;)

As you can see you are getting 5 eye brushes to which are colour coded with the colour purple so when you have your little collection of Real Technique brushes built up at least you can tell them apart I love that :)  The brushes come in a special travel case which is always hand right?

I like the way the brushes are designed.  They the name of the brush printed on the handle with Samantha's name also printed.  They have an easy grip end which is black so its easy to hold and use.  The length of the brush is perfect and with the easy grip at the end it shows first time users where to hold the brush while applying their make-up.  It is actually important to know where and how to hold the brushes as it makes a difference to your looks.
In this Kit you are getting:

The Deluxe Crease Brush :  I hate that I am starting this with a downer but I have to.  This isnt one of my favourites I have to admit Even though it says that this brush is for Contouring the crease it can be slightly too big for ones who have smaller eyes.  For me its the perfect size for my crease as I have big eyes.  I also find that this brush is very firmly packed with the synthetic fibres that some might find it too solid for a crease brush.  It is in fact a great brush for packing on the colour to the crease and also for blending in but I find I have to use a more softer blending brush to use after applying the colours.   I also love to use this to blend out my concealer under my eyes and it is the perfect size for applying highlight on the brow bone.

Next up is
The Base Shadow Brush:  Now this is a favourite of mine I absolutely love this brush and use it for multiply purposes.  This brush Is the perfect size for applying a wash of colour onto the lid.  Its also perfect for applying colour to the crease because of its shape it applies evenly for a cut crease look.  The bristles are alot softer on this brush than the deluxe brush which means you can use this as a blending brush too.  I love the shape, the feel and the performance of this brush and highly recommend it :)

Next up is

The Crease Brush:  This is another great brush to have in your collection I absolutely adore it.  This is a little brush for the more detailed work on your eyes such as highlighting the inner corner of your eyes or even if you are on who has smaller eyes this is perfect for applying colour on to your lids.  This is also perfect for smudging your liners.  I like to use this brush when creating a dark smokey eye because it allows you to apply the shadow to the exact place you want it without going overboard.

Next is :

The Pixel-point Eyeliner Brush:  A Brush I am not a fan of because I found that it was too thick and flimzy to be an eyeliner brush but I am glad to report that this brush has been replaced with The Fine Liner Brush which has a more finer tip for a better application.  I still use this brush to apply eye-shadow on my lower lash-line which allows a more precise line and no smudging

And Lastly

The Brow Brush:  This is surprisingly thicker than most brow brushes I have used.  There is one thing I have to say is that this brush is nice a smooth and soft unlike some brow brushes you get that can be hard and prickly.  I like how this brush leaves applying your brows so easy and the brush allows easy blending.  I have to admit I still to this day spend alot of time perfecting my brows but using this brush has lessened my time which is even better :)

Over all I am very happy with this kit.  The brushes work well and are great quality for the price.  They wash well and they never shed which is also great.  I do have my favourite eye-shadow brushes of my own and to be honest these brushes do not take over my favourites but thats not saying they are not brilliant either as I do use them constantly.  This is also a great deal for anyone starting up their make-up collection because as I stated before all that's missing is a good blending brush and you are sorted.  Have you tried these yet?  Whats your thoughts on them?  If you are interested in trying them out for yourself here is a code KBM938  that will set you on your way with up to $10 off your first order.
I hope you enjoyed this review and I have another Real Techniques one coming very soon
Until next time

Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lip Color Review

Hello My beauties How are you all today :)
I absolutely love it when i share with you my good experiences with products and the fact that 98% of what I have reviewed are all positive but there are times I feel I should share with you products that I have had bad experiences with also.  After all we like to know this as much as all the good dont we?  Well i like to get warned about products that I might think would work for me but infact could end up been a bad buy.

This review is one of those bad experiences reviews :(  which I am sad to say as Wet N Wild is a huge favourite of mine and it will continue to be but of course there is always one or two products from every brand that does not live up to their expectations.  After all they can not be always perfect can they?

This is one product that did not live up to my expectations and it really does sadden me to say this it really does because everything apart from its performance impressed me alot with these Megalast Liquid Lip colors but before i show you why it disappointed me let me tell you a little about this first
To Be honest I am still a little confused at the prospect of this because after reading reviews from other bloggers they painted a picture of this product been amazing yet I come across other reviews in which bloggers had not so amazing reviews about it so of course I just had to find out for myself.
What I love about Wet N Wild is the amazing amazing pigmentation they offer on all their products be it their eyeshadows ,  their blushes and their lip products so you can only imagine the pigmentation these Liquid Lip Colours have to offer and I can not put a wrong marking on that as they are extremely pigmented.  One of my favourite Lip Products from Wet N Wild is the Mega Last Lip Color Lipsticks they are the bomb the pigmentation is amazing they are smooth and last so so long on the lips
Wet n Wild did not go wrong with pigmentation on these Liquid Lip Colors either in fact they are so pigmented you really have to take care while applying them or you will have a mess (in a good way)
Dont they look beautiful :)  Wet n Wild state:
Intense liquid color with built-in moisturizer provides one-step application for weightless, ultra-conditioning wear that lasts up to 8 hours. ElastiSilk formula combines flexible color adhesion with silky-smooth pigments for transfer-proof, even application. Paraben-free formula conditions and moisturizes with vitamin E that helps promote anti-aging, protects the skin's moisture barrier, and balances the lip's natural hydration for a healthy-looking, plump pout all day.
Well now let me tell you when I swatches these on my arm first I seen the promises coming to reality honest one swipe of this and I had instant pigmentation.  I could see the moisture and shine from the swatches and I could also see it dried into what looked like the perfect matte finish.  After it dried there was no budging it whatsoever and even when i tried to scrub this off my arm with soap and a scrub brush it only half budged off my arm as you can see below.

I made sure to prep my lips by ex-foliating and applying balm as I knew these were a stain.  At first application the liquid lip color looked amazing I literally only used one coat to completely cover my lips and it felt very smooth creamy and moisturising never mind the shades look fantastic

Thats when my smile turned upside down.  Once the product started to dry on my lips it felt stick and heavy and I could get this horrible gloopy feeling on my lips.  Not only that but I felt my lips had never touch a drop of water in about 2 weeks oh my goodness.  Then i looked in the mirror and too my horror I see the horrible vision in front of me :(

This happened to both lip products and to be honest I tried everything I mean everything to make these babies work.  My lips were in perfect condition, I even dabbed my lips a little with tissue to review the oils from my balm to see would that work.  I applied a lip pencil first then applied a thin layer of this over and the same thing happened.
The only way I could remove this was to use an oil based make-up remover otherwise this was not going anywhere.
It is such a pity they did not work out for me as the idea of them were brilliant.  Maybe Wet n Wild has already taken note of this and possibly working on the formula i really hope so because only for that they would be amazing.  As i stated before Wet N Wild has never disappointed me before and quite possibly ever again this is just one product out of many I have tried that didn't work for me.

Have you tried these before?  Did they work for you ?
Until next time

Guest Blogger #4: Mane 'n Tail Hair Strengthener Review by Makeup By Dolls

Mane 'n Tail have in their product lineup an advanced daily leave-in conditioning treatment which claims to provide essential protection to help achieve longer, stronger, healthier looking hair and in addition, act as a protection layer preventing heat damage from hair straighteners and hair dryers.
According to Mane 'n Tail, this product purports to nourish and repair, help prevent split ends, protect hair from heat and chemical styling and provide moisturizing and conditioning.  Forumulated with no alcohol, it is also meant to be safe for all hair types.

How should you use it?
According to the instructions, the product needs to be applied sparingly, the suggestion is to apply to your hands and run your hands through your hair, varying the amount according to your hair length and thickness.  It is a leave-in treatment, so it shouldn't be rinsed out.

What kind of hair I have:

It is probably considered distressed and damaged from a lot of colouring, and re-colouring, and stripping, and different colouring.  My own hair is thick, naturally almost black.  Its current incarnation sees it as ombré blonde tips up to dark blonde roots, but in about 15 years it has seen every shade of shade of blonde, brown and red imaginable.  It's extremely long.  It's dry.  It gets a lot of TLC in terms of expensive products to keep it looking better aesthetically than it is in actuality :-)

What I found:
First time, first use, meh.  Disappointing.  I used it as advised - sparingly, and applied to my hands instead of my hair.  I didn't use my usual de-tangler or my usual leave-in treatment conditioner.  I found that my hair was harder to blowdry than usual, the very ends (by far the dryest part of my hair) were dry, knotted and difficult to comb through while blowdrying.  How-and-ever, and importantly, I got an extra day out of my hair before having to wash it.  Interesting.  And when I actually washed my hair, it felt smoother and silkier as I was washing it.  Also interesting.

I love Mane 'n Tail products, so I wanted to give it another go, so I bore with it for another couple of uses.  Second use?  I sprayed it very very liberally, drenched the ends completely and utterly until they were literally dripping, and this time around, my hair blowdried much easier;  no knots, no dry and ratty ends dragging through my brush.  And again, I got a day longer than usual out of my hair before washing it.  And again, when I washed it, it felt silky as I was washing it.  The third time, I did the same thing again, drenched it completely, and it was the same - worked fine, dried fine, felt fine.  Happy days.  It doesn't leave my hair feeling as silky as my previous leave-in treatment, but the difference in finish is genuinely minor enough.

Do I recommend it?
Yes, most certainly - however I think that it might be a good idea to ignore the whole "apply sparingly" instruction - use a LOT of this stuff, especially if you have dry or chemically treated hair, and it will do a REALLY good job.  It works as a great de-tangler.  It works as a great protectant for heat styling.  It works as a great leave-in treatment.  What it won't do is replace any oil/serum you might have previously used on any severely dry ends, but I'll personally never give up my serum, I just love it too much!  Priced at €12.85 for 178ml however, this is a great alternative to much more expensive equivalents.  And much more find-able in most pharmacies these days.  Look here for more info http://www.manentail.ie/product.php?productid=17532.
Thanks so much to Siobhan for taking part I really enjoyed this read and might actually go out there and try this :) :)

Guest Blog Post # 3: My 2013 Makeup Favourites! by Shawna's Beauty Blog

So another year down and another year older! Over the past year I have been trying out a lot of new products and I have made some firm makeup favourites. All the products mentioned are my most used products and they have made their way into my daily makeup routine. I can honestly say that I could not live without these products and I will definitely be repurchasing them if I have not done so already!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
I’m sure you all have heard of Sam Chapman from Pixiwoo? The Real Techniques sponge is a great dupe of the Beauty Blender at a more reasonable price. It's sculpted for all facial contours and features. The sponge is a small and convenient size that fits into your hand perfectly. I love this product because it is so versatile and can be used for applying foundation, concealer, cream contouring and cream blush.  It gives a flawless finish and is super easy to use! This product is widely available worldwide for anyone interested. Feel free to read my full review on this product on my blog!

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation
This foundation is light weight and has a light to medium coverage. I particularly love the shade 010 Light Porcelain because it’s light enough for my pale Irish skin! It’s great for an everyday foundation.

Sleek Brow Kit
Defined brows have come into fashion with a bang and this brow kit it perfect for getting that look. It’s a great dupe for the Benefit Brow Zings and it is less than half the price!
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
This bronzer is very famous as I’m sure you know! Its matte, has great pigmentation, cute packaging and is the perfect contour shade.

 Mac Studio Finish Concealer
Best.Concealer.Ever! I can honestly say that I haven’t found another product better! It covers all my blemishes, stays put all day and one little pot of concealer will last you forever!

Sleek Blush in Rose Gold
This blush is the perfect colour for my pale complexion and it has a gorgeous gold shine when it hits the light. This blush is a great dupe for NARS Organism. This blush is highly pigmented and has 5grams of product! I use this every day and I love it!

Maybelline Great Lash
This mascara is great for length and volume. It separates the lashes nicely and doesn’t clump. What more could you want?

Rimmel Moisture Renew in 470 Glam Plum Fulham
I can’t tell you how much I love this lipstick! I’ve worn this so much over the autumn/winter season and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. For me, plum coloured lipsticks suit me more than red lipsticks. This product is so moisturising and the colour payoff is amazing. Great product.

Too Faced Natural Eye Collection
I love this little compact eyeshadow palette. I always bring this with me when I’m on the go and I can create any eye look with this. The qualities of the shadows are Amazing and are an absolute dream to blend! I got this bad boy when I was visiting the US last year. This was definitely a great buy if I say so myself!

Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner
This liquid liner is incredible cheap but is a great product. Why would you pay for a high end liquid liner when this one works better? This product is only about €3 and the colour payoff is incredible rich. I’ve gone through numerous tubes of this and it never fails me.

Elf Studio Pressed Powder
I always use this for touch ups on the go. It has a mirror and sponge so it’s perfect for travel. For all you with oily skin, it’s great for controlling shine around the T zone. This has always been a product I’ve repurchased over and over again.

So here you have my 2013 makeup favourites! Stay tuned to my blog (www.shawnabeauty.blogspot.ie) for a tutorial using these products coming very soon. What have been your beauty favourites of 2013?
I’d like to thank Nina for the guest post on her blog, it has been lovely to feature on such an amazing blog!
